Discover a treasure trove of culture and nature on a round trip through Thailand. UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Sukhothai and Ayutthaya, the former royal sites of Siam, await you. The Royal Palace in Bangkok and the White Temple of Chiang Rai are other outstanding highlights that can be found throughout the country. A variety of landscapes offer evergreen jungle, lakes with floating bungalows, tea plantations, rice paddies and endless coastlines with the most beautiful beaches. Sustainable round trips take you to remote mountain regions with impressive panoramas and traditional hill tribes as well as to authentic Thailand. The private organisation of these discovery tours preserves the way of life of the local population and is environmentally friendly for nature.
Tailor your trip to Thailand to your preferences and interests. With a study tour, you can focus on cultural and historical sights and the life of the Thai people with their customs, traditions and way of life. Other routes emphasise nature and take you to the impressive mountains of Mae Hong Son and Chiang Rai as well as the jungle of Khao Sok National Park.
You decide on the ideal mix for the customisation of your personal Thailand round trip. This also includes considering how comfortable, adventurous and sporty you would like to travel. In each region, you will be accompanied by local guides who know the area very well and will show you the sights, viewpoints and local specialities.
Central Thailand, with Bangkok as its capital, is also the cultural centre of the country. The Royal Palace, important temples, the two royal cities of Ayutthaya and Sukhothai, floating markets, the bridge over the River Kwai and the Death End Railway are just a few examples of the well-known sights. Many destinations in and around Bangkok can be explored on day trips. For visits to more distant highlights such as Sukhothai, multi-day tours of two to four days are a good option. Several highlights can be visited in a relaxed manner on the journey to Kanchanaburi in the west of Bangkok. These include the Crazy Train Market, floating markets, the bridge over the River Kwai with a boat trip on the Kwai River, a ride on the Death End Railway and a visit to the Erawan Waterfall. There is a selection of very nice hotels in Kanchanaburi City or the option of staying in an elephant camp.
In northern Thailand, Chiang Mai is an ideal starting point for both day trips and round trips lasting four to six days. The province of Mae Hong Son stretches north-westwards to the Salween River on the border with Myanmar. Travelling in this region primarily offers many nature experiences such as the Lod Cave, the largest cave in northern Thailand, and many beautiful viewpoints. There are many small villages whose inhabitants in the border region offer an exciting mix of Burmese and Thais. The province of Chiang Rai offers cultural highlights such as the White Temple of Chiang Rai and the Golden Triangle as well as impressive mountain routes that also lead to the border with Myanmar and offer a great mix of culture and nature. Both provinces are home to mountain villages of various ethnic groups such as Akka and Palong, which have preserved their traditional ways of life to this day. Local markets offer delicacies such as dried longans and strawberries as well as honey. Along the way, you will often see sticky rice cooked in bamboo sticks over an open fire, a delicacy that you should not miss out on. Here are some routes that will show you the real Thailand, far away from other tourists.
> Round trip of an Australian couple through central and northern Thailand
The south of Thailand has the least to offer culturally. Instead, several locations by the sea, on islands and in the jungle of Khao Sok National Park can be combined. This part of the Land of Smiles is primarily suitable for an extended beach holiday, which can be made more interesting with day trips. Phuket and Khao Lak offer the starting point for a variety of tours and activities. These include snorkelling and diving trips to the world-famous Similan Islands, boat trips to Phang Nga Bay, sea kayaking and canoe trips on rivers such as the Sok River and visits to offshore islands such as Koh Yao Noi. In the Gulf of Thailand, a quadbike tour and a combined boat and canoe tour to the beautiful Ang Thong Marine National Park are possible in addition to an exploration tour of the island of Koh Samui. And off the coast of Koh Tao are some of the most beautiful spots for snorkelling and diving.
